Everything you Need to Know About Kosmos Clothing

April 09, 2019

At Kosmos, transparency with all our processes is key to our philosophy. We want to enable you to make an informed decision about the clothing you choose to wear, and the brands that you invest in, which is why we choose to be completely upfront about how our clothing is made and the measures we take to be eco-friendly. With this in mind, here’s everything you need to know about our clothing…

Kosmos Clothing Explained

Each and every garment that we produce has been made from yarn regenerated from fishing nets and post consumer waste. Each year 640,000 tonnes of fishing nets are discarded in our oceans, all of which can be reused and made into high quality and high performance materials. In reusing fishing net waste, we can have a positive impact on the environment of our seas.

The main hazard of discarded fishing nets is to marine life of all shapes and sizes. Fishing nets essentially continue to be effective, claiming countless lives because of a lack of awareness and responsibility. In addition, the netting is very slow to degrade. It clutters up the ocean, and even scrubs coral, creating a desolate seascape by being dragged over the reef by the shifting currents.

We choose to take these nets out of the sea and reuse them to turn them into something beautiful and useful. We also support those that are working to tidy up our oceans, by giving a percentage of every sale to the charity Healthy Seas so they can continue to dive for a sustainable tomorrow.

Further Action

Our efforts to ensure our clothing is sustainable and eco-friendly doesn’t stop there. We also ensure that petroleum isn’t used in the making of our products, so that we are not contributing to air pollution and climate change. While not widely known, petroleum is a key component in the making of synthetic fibres such as polyester and nylon. Our eco-friendly fabric drastically reduces waste and emissions by recycling existing resources.

We also choose to manufacture locally and support local suppliers. We produce our garments in buildings that are powered by renewable energy sources, and draw on our existing resources wherever possible to make our eco-friendly fabrics.

In addition, we encourage you, our customers to care for your Kosmos clothing in an environmentally friendly way. You can do this by washing your clothing on a cool wash, using an eco-friendly detergent, and a Guppy Bag to trap any microfibres to ensure they don’t end up in the ocean.

Everything that we do and everything we create surrounds our planet, which in turn benefits you and encourages you to strive towards better wellbeing and becoming more mindful both for yourself and the good of the planet.
